Music therapy for depression

An updated Cochrane review indicates that music therapy provides short-term beneficial effects for people with depression.

According to an updatetd Cochrane review, music therapy seems to reduce depressive symptoms and anxiety and helps to improve functioning. Illustration:

Music therapy added to treatment as usual seems to improve depressive symptoms compared with treatment as usual alone.

Additionally, music therapy plus treatment as usual is not associated with more or fewer adverse events than treatment as usual alone. Music therapy also shows efficacy in decreasing anxiety levels and improving functioning of depressed individuals.
