The Dental Biomaterials Adverse Reaction Unit is working with registration of adverse reaction reports, clinical assessment of referred patients as well as information and research on adverse reactions related to dental biomaterials.
The research is conducted in collaboration with dental, medical, toxicological and psychological disciplines.
The use of dental restorative materials is changed over the past ten years and new materials are regularly put on the market.
Data from reports from health professionals about adverse reactions / adverse events in patients in connection with use of dental materials are stored in a database at the Adverse Reaction Unit. The data enable analysis of changes over time of types of side effects that are reported and may generate signals regarding new types of reactions.
Clinical examination of referred patients and clinical trials including removal of materials that potentially causes side effects provide additional important information.
