About this research group
The Laboratory for Fresh water ecology and inland fisheries (LFI) established in 1969 undertakes research assignments that involve research, monitoring, taking measures and making evaluations in the field of fresh water ecology. We have developed special expertise on salmonids (salmon, sea trout, and resident trout) and benthos, and on assessments of which environmental factors should be present to ensure sustainable stocks of these species.
Our research focuses on the following areas:
- Stock size regulating factors
- Spawning biology of salmonids
- Biodiversity based on benthic communities in freshwater
- Effects of stream regulations
- Acidification and liming
- Biotope adjustments
- Effects of climate change
- Interactions with ocean farming
Our customers are directorates and county authorities, power companies, Norwegian Research Council and others. Other research institutes such as Norwegian Institute of Water Research (NIVA), Norwegian institute of Nature Research (NINA), Institute of Marine Research, Veterinary Science Opportunities (VESO) are important collaborators.
