Category captain arrangements (CCA).
The research topic of this project is to investigate both the private and social motives for CCAs. One question would be whether the retailer can rely on the manufacturer to act in its interest, and if so, whether that is socially beneficial, and if not, whether it harms or helps welfare. Another issue is the question of which manufacturer the retailer should choose at the category captain. Should it be a large manufacturer or a small one? Another question is what type of decisions the captain should be allowed to take. A final issue is how the existence of category captains affects merger incentives.
