About this research group
This scientific theme focuses on understanding the impacts of climate and environmental change on nature and society, the response of ecosystems under changing climate, and how nature and society adapt to future climate and environmental change. This theme’s research interests cover various systems such as land, atmosphere, ocean, and cryosphere and the interaction across the systems. We collaborate internally and externally to address the following questions.
- How does climate change affect nature and its feedback to climate?
- How will climate change affect the strength and frequency of extreme weather and climate events?
- How will changes to the water cycle effect water availability for energy and food production, and ecosystem functionality?
- How can we better distill climate information in ways that are most relevant for climate adaptation decision-making?
The Climate Impacts and Social Challenges theme pursues answers to questions such as these as we work to better understand the impacts of changes to the global climate system in regional contexts. While we primarily aim to improve our physical understanding of the impacts of climate change, the group also engages with a wide range of user communities to develop decision-relevant climate services.
